World Mental Health Day 2006
People in Gateshead will be encouraged to take positive steps towards protecting their mental well-being on Tuesday 10 October, World Mental Health Day. Click here to download the full programme
A full programme of free events has been arranged by Gateshead Primary Care Trust (PCT) in St Joseph’s Catholic Church hall, High Street West, from 10.30am to 6pm.
On display on the day there will be examples of art work produced by members of local mental health groups, Dryden Road Carers, Heworth Arts and Relaxation Project (HARP) and Northern Lights Arts Group. They have been working with Tyne and Wear Museums in recent months on wall hangings illustrating the theme of promoting good mental health. Their handiwork is also being used on publicity material for World Mental Health Day.
Also on the day, the PCT’s Primary Care Mental Health Team will demonstrate relaxation techniques and aromatherapy, Tyne and Wear Museums will be running taster sessions for anyone wanting to try their hand at art and Gateshead Council’s Arts Development Team will be holding a drama session.
In addition, there will be two cycle rides around the local area. There will also be stalls, with information on everything from healthy eating to support organisations, and a performance by Over the Edge, a live band that are back by popular demand.
