Since 2002, Citizenship has been a statutory National Curriculum subject at Key Stages 3 & 4. It is also a non-statutory element of the primary curriculum, linked with the PSHE programme. Citizenship education has been introduced not to tell young people what to think, but to help to equip them with the knowledge and skills to deal confidently with issues that affect them as individuals and as members of the national and international communities.
