FAO Headteachers & Healthy School Co-ordinators
You may be aware that in 2010, Gateshead commissioned the Schools and Students Health Education Unit (SHEU) to carry out a Health Related Behaviour Questionnaire (HRBQ) in Gateshead Schools.
35 Gateshead Schools participated in the 2010 survey which allowed both individual schools, the Primary Care Trust and the Local Authority to gain a valuable insight into the health related behaviours of students.
We are now in a position to offer your school the opportunity to participate in a new HRBQ for 2012 with Gateshead Primary Care Trust funding the surveys with no costs for schools.
The survey would involve consulting pupils from 2 different year groups. Historically, this has been Years 5 & 6 in Primary Schools and Years 8 & 10 in Secondary Schools. Schools can conduct the surveys using traditional, paper based questionnaires, or they can survey the pupils using an online version of the survey which includes the additional benefit of being able to survey the whole school population as opposed to specific year groups (please note the SHEU doesn’t recommend surveying Yr 7 pupils)
There are many benefits for schools taking part in the survey. The data gathered from each school would contribute significantly to schools engaged in the new Gateshead Healthy Schools Programme. This would help schools to identify their key health priorities as well as giving valuable and robust data across all areas of children and young people’s health and wellbeing.
The data gathered also contributes towards helping both the PCT and the Local Authority identify the key health inequalities of children living across Gateshead which would then allow the targeting and prioritising of resources to where they are needed most.
As stated previously, we are now in a position to be able to offer to schools the opportunity to participate in the 2012 HRBQ survey and would like to invite initial expressions of interest from those schools wishing to take part.
