S.H.A.R.E. Seminar - Wednesday 29th June 2005
A seminar will be held at Dryden P.D.Centre on Wednesday 29th June 2005, to celebrate the success so far achieved by the S.HA.R.E. (Sex, Health & Relationships Education) programme.
Eight primary schools have piloted the programme over current year and SRE Coordinators from each of these will be providing an insight into the development and delivery of the programme via a short presentation.
Much of the seminar will be dedicated to providing an overview of the S.H.A.R.E. programme and how it can be delivered in schools. However, another important aspect of the agenda will be to give interested headteachers and SRE coordinators from other schools the opportunity to discuss the programme with teaching staff from the pilot schools.
We hope that the seminar will be attended by headteachers and SRE coordinators from schools that might be interested in starting the programme from September 2005.
Information is currently being sent out to schools about this seminar and teachers interested in attending must book their place via the reply sip attached to the forthcoming letter of invitation.
We are delighted with the response that the S.H.A.R.E. programme is receiving from teachers, health advisers and LEA advisers and we wish to continue this support to all schools across Gateshead.
We will also be recruiting at this event for September 2005, and any schools interested in delivering the S.H.A.R.E. programme to compliment there PSHE/SRE curriculum can get more information from Nick Mawson (SRE Health Development Officer) or Alun Davies (Health Education Adviser). S.H.A.R.E.
Primary schools pilot SHARE (Sex,Health & Relationships Education) programme.
In January, 8 Gateshead primary schools signed up to launch the SHARE programme to develop sex & relationships education in schools.
The aim of this programme is intended to support teachers, inform young people and encourage parents to share responsibility in teaching of health education.
How will it work?
The SHARE programme is intended to provide a suitable framework to deliver sex & relationships education in an age appropriate context.
Teachers are encouraged to develop a group of fictional characters, that will be central to the delivery of this pilot 'sex & relationships education' programme.
The characters can be developed so that they share similar experiences to the children who are learning about them. They can grow together, tackle age approriate issues and encounter similar life-style and decision-making problems.
By using the characters, pupils will be able to learn more about aspects of SHARE, as teachers use more case studies, stories and cross curricular links to promote knowledge and understanding of 'sex & relationships' and it key themes in a sensitive, creative and informative manner.
